How guests use Google

Guests still begin on Google, and the results page keeps changing.

In a ten-country study by Ipsos for Google that included India, 53% of travellers said they regularly use Google Search for travel content[1]. That makes Google the clearest view of intent a hotel can buy. A guest who types a destination, a type of stay or your hotel's name is telling you what they want, and often when.

The page those guests see is changing fast. AI Overviews had more than 2 billion monthly users by mid-2025[2], and AI Mode passed one billion monthly users within a year of launch[3]. In the US, guests can now book hotels inside AI Mode with partners such as Booking.com, Expedia, Marriott, Hilton and IHG[4]. Your ads, your rate feed and your landing pages all have to hold up across these surfaces.

Your hotel's name is contested ground

Search for an independent hotel by name and you will often see OTA ads or listings next to the hotel's own website. A guest who books through one of them costs you a commission of typically 15–30% of the booking value[6]. A brand campaign keeps that guest on your website for the price of a click, which tends to be low because your site is the most relevant result.

Free booking links reward accurate rates

Google shows free booking links beside paid Hotel ads. Clicks on them cost nothing, and Google ranks them on usefulness to the guest, including price accuracy and landing page experience[5]. A rate feed from your booking engine, through a Google-approved connection, can put your direct price in that box.

Bidding only learns from what you track

Smart bidding chases whatever you count as a conversion. If calls, WhatsApp chats and booking engine sales go untracked, Google optimises toward page views or map taps instead. At EBC Mussoorie, most early conversions were map-direction taps; once real enquiries were tracked, direct enquiries rose from about 11 to 449 a month[7].

What changes when we take over your hotel's Google Ads.

Without it

  • Conversions that count page views, map taps or duplicate form fills
  • One campaign mixing brand, destination and generic searches
  • Every ad sending guests to the home page
  • The same daily budget in peak season and in the monsoon lull

With Fielmente

  • Calls, WhatsApp chats, forms and booking engine sales tracked as separate conversions
  • Separate campaigns for brand, destination, offers and retreats, each with its own budget
  • Landing pages matched to each ad group, with Book Now, call and WhatsApp on screen
  • Budgets moved month by month toward the dates and searches that convert cheapest

Google Ads results from hotels and resorts we manage.

All five of our published case studies are Google Ads accounts. These three show the levers that move results most: clean tracking, a landing page for each offer, and budgets that follow the season.

Figures come from each client's Google Ads account, averaged per month over the periods shown, with enquiries counted as tracked calls, WhatsApp chats, forms and booking clicks. These are Indian properties; we've also worked with hospitality businesses in the UAE, Oman, the UK, the USA, Canada, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Australia.

Campaign types

What each Google campaign does for a hotel.

Google sells hotels several kinds of campaign. Each one reaches a different guest at a different moment, so we give each its own job, budget and measure of success.

CampaignThe guest it reachesHow we run itWhat we watch
Search: your brandSomeone who already knows your hotel and is about to book or call.A separate campaign with sitelinks to rooms, offers and WhatsApp, so resellers can't take the top spot cheaply.Impression share on your name, and how many brand clicks end in a booking.
Search: destination and stay typeA guest comparing places to stay in your area, such as a hill-station weekend or an Ayurveda retreat.Tight ad groups by intent, each sending guests to a page that answers that exact search.Search terms every week, cost per enquiry and click-to-enquiry rate.
Performance MaxGuests across Search, Maps, YouTube, Gmail and Display who resemble the people who already enquire.Added after Search converts, fed with real photos and offers, with brand exclusions in place.Whether it adds new enquiries or only claims ones Search would have won.
Hotel Ads and free booking linksA guest comparing live prices for your hotel in Google's hotel results and Maps.Rates sent through a Hotel Center connection. Free booking links cost nothing per click, while paid Hotel ads are ranked by auction[5].Price accuracy against OTAs, and the share of clicks that reach your booking engine.
Demand GenGuests on YouTube, Discover and Gmail who haven't picked a destination yet.Image and short video ads for experiences and packages, plus remarketing to recent site visitors.Cost per engaged visit and assisted enquiries, judged over weeks.
YouTubeGuests planning a longer or special trip, such as a wedding, a retreat or a family holiday.Short room, view and experience videos, each with a clear next step.View rate, site visits and later brand searches.

Most independent hotels start with brand and destination Search and add the rest once tracking shows Search is converting. At Hotel Green Castle, about 90% of spend stayed on Search, with Performance Max adding reach[7].

Conversion tracking

Six conversions every hotel account should track.

Hotel guests get in touch in more ways than a form. If Google can't see those actions, it can't find more guests like the ones who took them. We track each of these as its own conversion.

Calls from ads

Call assets and call-only ads, counted when a call lasts long enough to be a real enquiry.

Calls from your website

A tracked number on the landing page, so guests who read first and call later still count. At Hotel Green Castle this made phone bookings visible to Google's bidding.

WhatsApp chats

Clicks on WhatsApp buttons tracked as enquiries, so the conversations your team handles on WhatsApp count toward bidding.

Booking engine sales

Completed bookings with their value, so Google can bid toward revenue as well as enquiries, where your booking engine supports it.

Form enquiries

Wedding, group and retreat forms, each counted once, with spam and duplicate submissions filtered out.

Leads matched to stays

Enquiries stored in a CRM and matched to guest records, as Naad Wellness does, so you can see which keywords bring guests who actually stay.

Budget control

Defend your name, then spend where the season is.

Brand search is where hotels quietly lose bookings to OTAs. A guest who types your hotel's name has already chosen you, yet a reseller's ad above your site can still take the booking and the commission. We run your brand terms as their own campaign with their own budget, check impression share every week, and send those clicks straight to your booking engine or WhatsApp.

Seasonal budgets make the biggest difference to cost. Demand for hill stations, beaches and wellness retreats swings hard between peak months, long weekends and the off-season. At Hotel Green Castle we pushed budget into March, April and August, the months with the cheapest enquiries at ₹26–33 each[7]. At EBC Mussoorie we scaled into the October–April season and eased back from May in line with occupancy[7].

  • Brand, competitor and destination terms kept in separate campaigns with separate budgets
  • Budgets planned month by month against your occupancy and need dates
  • Bids and ad copy changed ahead of long weekends and school holidays
  • Spend reduced when you're close to full, so you don't pay for guests you can't host

How it works

How we launch or take over a hotel Google Ads account.

Tracking comes first, because every later decision depends on it. Then structure, then scale.

  1. Week 1

    Audit

Conversion set-up, search terms, wasted spend, brand coverage, Hotel Center status and landing pages, compared with how guests actually contact your hotel.

  2. Weeks 1–2

    Tracking

Calls, WhatsApp clicks, forms and booking engine purchases set up as separate conversions, with duplicates and map taps taken out of bidding.

  3. Weeks 2–4

    Rebuild and launch

Brand, destination and offer campaigns rebuilt and matched to landing pages, with Performance Max and Hotel Ads added once Search converts.

  4. Month 2 onwards

    Optimise by season

Weekly search-term and bid reviews, monthly budget shifts toward your need dates, and a report on enquiries, cost per enquiry and bookings.

Questions

Hotel Google Ads Agency: FAQs.

Something else on your mind? Call +91 95018 68775 or email us.

What does a hotel Google Ads agency manage day to day?

Search terms and negative keywords, bids and budgets, ad copy and assets, conversion tracking, landing pages and Hotel Center rate feeds. We review search terms weekly and budgets monthly against your occupancy, and send a report on enquiries, cost per enquiry and bookings.

Should we bid on our own hotel's name?

In most cases, yes. OTAs and other resellers often bid on hotel names, and a guest who books through their ad costs you a commission you could have kept. Brand clicks tend to be cheap and convert well. We check what appears when guests search your name before deciding how much to spend.

Is Performance Max a good fit for hotels?

It can be, once Search is converting and tracking is clean. Without good conversion data it tends to spend on cheap placements and claim brand searches you would have won anyway. At Hotel Green Castle it took about 8% of spend alongside Search. We add brand exclusions and judge it on new enquiries.

What's the difference between Hotel Ads and free booking links?

Both show your rate in Google's hotel results. Hotel Ads are paid and ranked through an auction. Free booking links cost nothing per click and are ranked on how useful they are to the guest. To appear in either you need a Hotel Center connection, usually through your booking engine or channel manager provider.

How do you track calls and WhatsApp enquiries from ads?

Calls from ads are tracked through Google's call assets, and calls from your website through a tracked number on the page. WhatsApp and Book Now clicks are tracked as separate conversions. Each is counted once, so Google learns which searches lead to real conversations.

How quickly will Google Ads bring enquiries?

Search can produce enquiries within days of launch, and bidding settles over the first few weeks as it learns. At The Rudraksh, measurable enquiries went from 4 in March 2025 to 164 the following month once tracking was fixed.

How much should a hotel spend on Google Ads?

It depends on your room count, rates, location and how competitive your searches are. We plan a starting budget around your need dates, prove the cost per enquiry, then scale the campaigns that work. Naturoville grew enquiries 9.5× on a budget only 9% higher, so structure often matters more than spend.

Do we own the Google Ads account?

Yes. The ads account, the conversion data and the Hotel Center account stay in your name. We work through the access you give us, and every change is visible in the account's history.

Do you run Google Ads for hotels outside India?

Yes. Alongside India, we've worked with hospitality businesses in the UAE, Oman, the UK, the USA, Canada, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Australia. Campaigns are built for each market's languages and search habits, with review calls in your working hours.
